Dear Planning Officer,
I am writing to object to the proposed asphalt plant at the B.P. Mitchell Inert Recycling Centre, Cole Green Lane, Welwyn Garden City, SG14 2NR. I strongly disagree with the Planning Agent’s claim that this facility would be “ancillary” to the site’s existing waste management use.
My reasons for objection are as follows:
Asphalt production is a standalone industrial activity, not a minor or supportive extension of inert waste recycling.
The proposal represents a material change of use, introducing a new industrial process that cannot be covered by existing permissions and therefore requires full planning scrutiny and public consultation.
The plant creates significant environmental and community impacts, including:
-
Air pollution, odour, and noise from the processing of Asphalt
-
Industrial and visual intensification close to homes, schools and wildlife areas
I respectfully urge the Planning Authority to reject the claim that this development is ancillary to the existing use.
The proposed asphalt plant is a distinct industrial operation and should require a separate planning application, full environmental assessment, and full public engagement.
Thank you for considering my objection.
Yours sincerely,
